Georgia is onto the SEC Championship game! But at what cost? Georgia will be without Lawrence Cager who suffered injury earlier this week in practice. George Pickens is expected to miss at least the first half of the SEC Championship game after he was ejected from the Georgia Tech game for throwing a punch.
Georgia star running back D’Andre Swift left the game for Georgia with a shoulder injury that he suffered in the third quarter. It is unknown as to whether or not the injury is serious or he’ll be able to play in a week’s time. Jake Fromm played well after a struggling first half where he only threw for one touchdown. Fromm finished the game 14/29 passing with 254 yards and four touchdowns. It is also to be noted that this was the fourth game in a row where Fromm finished with a completion percentage under 50 percent. With things already looking thin for next Saturday as the Dawgs will play the Tigers. Many Georgia fans will begin to question the actions of freshman receiver George Pickens who was ejected from the game for fighting. Many have already agreed that it was unnecessary for Pickens to even get involved in the situation. While others are saying that he was defending himself like any other would do. According to a report, Pickens will miss the first half of the LSU game. That is if the Georgia coaching staff doesn’t intend to punish him further. Pickens is just coming off a suspension for team matters that held him out of the first half of the Georgia Tech game. When he returned to play in the second half, he hooked up with Fromm on a 41-yard touchdown pass. An explosive play for the Dawgs that would further their lead. Georgia needed someone to step up at receiver today, and that player was the senior Tyler Simmons who brought 3 receptions, one for a touchdown, and 53 yards. A big day for Simmons who has been dealing with an injury for the majority of the season. Dominick Blaylock was targeted twice out of the slot position for 29 yards and a touchdown. Senior Charlie Woerner the tight end brought in the first receiving touchdown of the day for 20 yards. While it wasn’t a pretty performance through the air for Georgia, as they struggled for consistency in the first half. It is a confidence-boosting one that sees Fromm throw for four touchdowns and over 200 yards. Before exiting the game with an injury D’Andre Swift rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries. Brian Herrien rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on 8 attempts. While the freshman Kenny McIntosh rushed for the other rushing touchdown. McIntosh did record 6 carries for 20 yards with the second-string offense. Stetson Bennet came in at quarterback in the third quarter in relief for Jake Fromm as Bennet passed for 27 yards on 2-3 throwing. The Georgia special teams units struggled as they muffed a punt that led to the only points that Georgia Tech would put on the board. But they made up for it when Georgia recovered a muffed punt from Georgia Tech that Georgia recovered in the endzone. The Georgia defense proved their dominance yet again as they only allowed a touchdown from a struggling Georgia Tech offense. The touchdown was given to the Yellow Jackets by the Georgia special teams unit. Georgia will be heading home to Athens to begin the preparation for the SEC Championship clash with LSU. College Football Playoff contentions are on the line for Georgia as they have to beat LSU to get in. The Georgia offense will need to figure out a way to put points up on the board to win. While the Georgia defense will have its hands full with a heavy air attack from the Tigers and Heisman candidate Joe Burrow.

Georgia is just one game away from ending their regular season. The Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta to play the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech inside of Bobby Dodd Stadium for the “clean, old fashioned” rivalry.
While it is easy for Georgia to look ahead to next week as they will head to Atlanta once again, but this time for the SEC Championship as they will face the LSU Tigers who are currently ranked second in the College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia cannot risk overlooking an opponent like Georgia Tech as we’ve seen in the past, great Georgia teams fall to Georgia Tech in an upset. This is a game that doesn’t help to win but hurts to lose. While the Bulldogs are heavy favorites for this matchup with the Yellow Jackets. Georgia hasn’t looked too impressive at times. The Georgia offense has been missing in action at times, which has seen the whole offense dip in performance. We haven’t seen the Bulldogs dominant a team on the scoreboard as we have in the past. The run game has been a strength for the Dawgs but when it is taken away, the air attack has been nearly non-existent. With Georgia’s biggest playmaker and best receiver, Lawrence Cager ruled out for this week and next week. It is up to Kirby Smart, James Coley and the rest of the offensive coaching staff to come up with a way to replace that production that Cager has brought to Georgia when he is on the field. Georgia loses 476 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 33 receptions. Cager leads the team in receiving yards and receptions. While George Pickens is the ideal replacement as he leads Georgia in receiving touchdowns and has one less reception than Cager. Pickens hasn’t consistently been available for Georgia as we’ve seen teams scheme him out of games. Defenses have been able to put Pickens in man coverage and provide safety help over top to help the corner. This means Georgia will need to rely on people like Dominick Blaylock who has done well out of the slot for Georgia this season. Blaylock plays better with every reception he makes for Georgia. Jake Fromm has come under increasing pressure over the past few weeks as more and more fans are becoming impatient and frustrated with Georgia’s offensive struggles. People would like to see more of the Jake Fromm that led Georgia to leads over Alabama in the National Championship and the SEC Championship. When Fromm has the protection he will make the right decisions with the ball. It is up to the coaches to be calling the best plays that put Jake in a good situation. Georgia has struggled on third down because of bad play calls on first and second down. Jake is having to make up for the mistakes that were made up in a box or on the sideline. This game is the perfect time for Georgia to get back to the roots of its offense that has made it so successful in the past two seasons. Run the ball at will and cut the throat of the defense with a deadly air attack. An unpredictable offense is a good offense. We haven’t seen that unpredictability this season from Georgia as we are more than likely able to predict what the play is going to be before the ball is snapped. I want to see a dominant performance from a talent-filled offense in Atlanta. Use Georgia Tech as a tune-up for LSU and show them that this offense isn’t to be messed with. Georgia will beat Georgia Tech in Bobby Dodd Stadium 38-7 in a dominating performance from both sides of the ball. Go Dawgs! With Turkey brewing in the ovens of many Georgia fans this great Thanksgiving Day. While fans are spending the day with their families and loved ones. Coach Smart and the Georgia staff are scheming ways to work around the potential absence of Lawrence Cager.
Breaking news came out Wednesday night that the graduate transfer from Miami suffered yet another injury this season. This time it was an ankle injury that was suffered during practice. Cager has also been dealing with some ribs injury and a nagging shoulder injury that has been hurting him for most of the season. Cager has been the Georgia passing game at times this season, as he has been the most trusted target for Jake Fromm. His height and athleticism have been a huge weapon for the Georgia offense as he possesses an advantage over each defensive back he goes against. He has been the favorite third-down target for the Dawgs this season. The Georgia offense has struggled without Cager and has been unable to be efficient on third downs. Defenses can stack the box and commit more men to stop the run and just running tight man coverage against the Georgia receivers. The Georgia wideouts have struggled to create separation which has hurt Jake Fromm as he is having to improvise and find a different way to create plays through the air. Georgia is looking more towards the check downs instead of the big play target. With an SEC Championship showdown with the number two team in the country LSU looming the offensive struggles for Georgia are magnified by the media and fans. People are looking for scapegoats and trying to give their opinions on what needs to change, most of those opinions are calling for someone's job. James Coley, the offensive coordinator who is in his first season as the offensive coordinator for Georgia this season has been the biggest scapegoat for the struggles offensively. People have blamed his poor playcalling especially in the second half of games. Georgia has been caught being too conservative in the second half of games and teams are making them pay for it. Auburn outscored Georgia 14-0 in the second half and those two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. Just a week ago Texas A&M outscored Georgia 10-6 in the second half which gave the Aggies a chance to win the game late in the fourth quarter. If it wasn't for the Georgia defense it could've been a whole different story coming out of Athens. Georgia only passed for 163 yards and had one passing touchdown this past Saturday against Texas A&M. Lawrence Cager didn't see a snap for the Dawgs, as he was likely being held out due to his injuries. It was a rainy day in Athens which made it even harder for Georgia to get its offense in sync. Georgia still has a lot of talent at the receiver position without Cager as we've seen the freshman duo Dominick Blaylock and George Pickens step up and make plays for Georgia against Auburn and Texas A&M. Consistency has been the problem for both of them. Blaylock had a good week against Auburn then followed that up with one catch for eleven yards against Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Picken had 2 catches for 57 yards and a touchdown. Jake Fromm does a good job of spreading the ball around and finding the open man. But he yet to develop a connection with other receivers like he has with Cager. The big question is whether or not Fromm trust his other receivers like he does Cager? Or is it not seeing those receivers? Pickens has the height and athleticism as Cager does and Pickens possesses more speed than Cager does out wide. Pickens would be the perfect replacement for Cager as he has the tools to win a jump ball, it all comes to down to trust. A quarterback needs to trust his receiver will go up and get the ball when it is in the air. We have seen Dominick Blaylock destroy defenses in the middle of the field as he is a true slot receiver that can open up a defense. Blaylock has the speed and shiftiness to get past linebackers and open up the field for Jake Fromm. We saw against Auburn, as Blaylock was lined up in the slot and took the top off the defense with his speed and agility. Blaylock can be a go-to guy on third downs if he is put in the right position. One of the biggest question marks this season has been Demetrius Robertson. The former five-star high school recruit from Savannah, Georgia who went to California then transferred to Georgia last season, has been a question mark for the Dawgs. We have seen flashes of a dominant receiver but have yet to see him put it all together and steal the show. The weapons for Georgia are limitless as we have guys that have been waiting for their opportunity to shine. The Georgia coaching staff needs to find what works on offense and commit to doing just that. We have seen the Dawgs struggle to put the ball in the endzone when they enter the redzone. Which is something you don't see from a National Championship caliber team. When Georgia has been successful in the red zone it is because they were unpredictable with their play calls. We saw against Florida as Jake Fromm ran an RPO and connected with Dominick Blaylock. Florida expected to run and when they saw the play fake to Swift they bit, which left an open Blaylock. Georgia needs to be aggressive on offense if they want to win a National Championship. Playing conservative hasn't gotten them anywhere in the past few years. Players aren't the only ones that need to show aggression, coaches do too. Things have not been going the way people would've liked too for Georgia offensively this season. Georgia has struggled on offense to be consistent through four quarters with an efficient offense, which is something nobody saw coming after last season.
Georgia lost it's top five receiving targets from a year ago over this past offseason. Many didn't think that it would be much of a problem for Georgia this late in the season. Junior quarterback Jake Fromm has not looked like himself this season as something feels off in the passing game. Georgia doesn't have that spark offensively like it has had the last two seasons with Fromm at the helm. Lawrence Cager has been brilliant for the Dawgs this season as he has been the most reliable player out wide for Georgia. A graduate transfer from Miami who showed a lot of potential in his three years at Miami saw an opportunity at Georgia with his former offensive coordinator James Coley now serving in that same position at Georgia. With the top five targets from last season gone, Cager jumped at the opportunity to play at Georgia. Cager has played in eight games for Georgia this season and has picked up 476 yards, 4 touchdowns on 33 receptions this season for Georgia. He has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury that has held him out of the second half of the South Carolina game, and the Kentucky game. He then injured his ribs which were one of the factors why he didn't play in the senior night game against Texas A&M. Adversity keeps piling up on Cager as it is being reported that he suffered an ankle injury today in practice. The severity of the injury is unknown as of right now, but his status is questionable for Saturday against Georgia Tech. Georgia is two wins away from their ultimate goal of making it back to the College Football Playoffs.
The number 4 ranked Georgia Bulldogs beat the number 24 ranked Aggies of Texas A&M. As the Dawgs weathered the storm literally and figuratively. It was an emotional day in Athens as it was Senior Night which means it would be the farewell to all the senior Dawgs that have led the program for the past four years. Including the final farewell for some juniors who will likely be declaring for the NFL Draft at the end of the season. The weather wasn’t the only thing that was trying to rain on Georgia’s parade, as Texas A&M tried to ruin Georgia’s dreams on Senior Night. The wet conditions made it another struggling day at the office for Jake Fromm as he struggled to get a grip on the ball as he started out 1/7 passing. Fromm started the day with a glove and ended the day without it. But Fromm finished the day with 163 yards and 1 touchdown while completing 11 of his 23 passes. The weather noticeably affected Fromm as he missed two passes that would’ve been touchdowns if he completed them. One was to Herrien, as Herrien was running a wheel route wide open and Fromm overthrew him. Second, was Fromm tried to hook up with Pickens with a flea-flicker but overthrew him as well. With a shaky passing game, it was time for the Dawgs to rely on D’Andre Swift and the big and talented offensive line. Swift ran for 103 yards on 19 carries, while also contributed 29 more yards receiving for Georgia. Swift has been the gameplan for Georgia whenever the passing game isn’t going the way it should be. He has made it evident why he has a very good chance of leaving after this season. George Pickens was the leading receiver for the Dawgs as he stepped up in the absence of Lawrence Cager, who was suited up but didn’t play. Pickens picked up 57 yards and a touchdown on 2 receptions. Yet again it came down to the Georgia defense as they had to hold off the Aggies offense while the Georgia offense struggled. The Aggies rushing attack was held to -1 yards rushing as a team as they struggled to run the ball against the Georgia defense. The defense played well for three quarters but struggled in the fourth as they looked sluggish. The offense hasn’t been able to finish teams off when they have a chance too but has hurt the defense in the second half. But Georgia was able to pick up in the win in ugly fashion as they beat Texas A&M 19-13 at home to finish off the year at Sanford Stadium. Georgia has Georgia Tech in Bobby Dodd Stadium next Saturday, then the Dawgs will travel to Mercedes Benz Stadium to take on LSU for the SEC Championship. Georgia has two weeks of practice and one game to figure out a way to overcome their woes in the passing game. Georgia’s offense will be the deciding factor in an SEC Championship game against a high powered LSU offense. It was another test that Georgia passed convincingly. The Georgia Bulldogs have had an up and down season so far as they started with a perfect 5-0 record. Then, the day of reckoning came as South Carolina came to Athens and upset Georgia on it's home turf inside of Sanford Stadium.
The dogs are haven't looked back since that loss as the Dawgs have won four in a row since that humiliating loss. That fourth win came Saturday as it was picked up on the road against Auburn. Inside an incredible atmosphere like Jordan-Hare Stadium, where past Georgia teams have fallen. This year's Georgia team went into Jordan-Hare Stadium with their minds set on ending the week 1-0. Georgia didn't look past Auburn as they know what every game means to their season. Georgia had several players step up on Saturday and two will be this week's "Top Dawgs." Offensive Top Dawg of the Week: The Offensive Line The offensive line has been banged up throughout this season as they've dealt with a handful of injuries from the start of the season. The offensive line had yet another test as they had to deal with two more injuries. The most versatile offensive lineman Cade Mays who has played every position along the offensive line this season for Georgia. Mays has been dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered last week against Missouri. He pushed through it this week, and it ended up with him missing some snaps Saturday against Auburn. Not only did Mays miss some snaps for Georgia against Auburn but Ben Cleveland who rotates at right guard with Cade Mays. Cleveland missed snaps because a toe injury that he suffered against Missouri. Auburn bolsters two of the best defensive lineman in College Football who both have a future in the NFL. The offensive line had to deal with Derrick Brown, who was recruited by Kirby Smart and his staff to come to Georgia originally. But Brown ended up choosing to attend Auburn and he has been one the most dangerous players in the nation. Not only did Georgia have to deal with Brown but Georgia had to deal with Marlon Davidson, who came into the game with five sacks on the year and ended up being the only Auburn player to get a sack this weekend. The offensive line did a great job this weekend with dealing the dangerous Auburn pass rush as they presented a major problem for the banged up line. But Georgia did a great job executing a gameplan to minimize their impact. Defensive/Special Teams Top Dawg of the Week: Jake Camarda It has been a roller coaster career for Jake Camarda ever since he came to Georgia. He has shown a lot of potential to be one of the best punters in College Football. But he has also had some performances that made not himself but Georgia fans question him. Jake had a career day against Auburn as not only did he have a career high in punt attempts with 11 but he had 558 yards, with an average of 50.7 yards per punt. He also dropped four punts inside the 20 yard-line. But his best punt of the day came when he was pinned back in his endzone, Camarda was able to pin Auburn at their own 42 yard line. But it was later moved forward because of a Georgia penalty that cost them that great punt from Camarda. Dawg Bone Performers Jake Fromm: Jake Fromm had yet another amazing game for Georgia as he led a very efficient offense as he threw for 3 touchdowns while giving Georgia 110 yards through the air. Fromm did a great job of managing the game for the Dawgs, as he keep them out of bad plays and did his best to keep a struggling offense afloat in the second half. Dominick Blaylock: Blaylock the freshman reciever wasn't the freshman many would've expected to have a good game against Auburn, as many thought Pickens would show why he decommitted from Auburn on signing day and instead chose Georgia. Blaylock opened up the scoring for Georgia after he hauled in a 51 yard touchdown pass from Jake Fromm. Blaylock provide Georgia with a crucial first touchdown. Tyler Clark: The senior leader of the defensive line made his presence felt Saturday as he was crucial to stopping the run. Clark came up big with his two tackles both being for a loss. Travon Walker: The freshman who many wouldn't have predicted to have the season he's had so far. Walker has turned his potential in performances multiple times this season. This Saturday was just the latest example as he came up big for Georgia with a sack on Bo Nix and a tackle for a loss and two total tackles. The rest of the Defense: The Georgia defense has been the story this season for the Dawgs as they are one of if not the best overall unit in College Football. In years past their has always been that one player that you could point to and say he is the reason, or he will be a first pick in the NFL Draft. But this season Georgia is loaded with talented players at each position which is why they are such a cohesive unit. They held the Auburn offense to a shutout through three quarters. Although there was a downfall in their performance in the fourth quarter and some holes that were exploited. The Georgia defense came up big for the team this past Saturday. Jake Fromm settles some demons that were remaining from his previous experience on the road inside of Jordan-Hare Stadium. With his little brother on the opposing sideline as a player who wasn’t dressed out, Jake Fromm was able to lead Georgia to a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The media said it all week in the buildup to the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” as they talked about how the committee made a mistake putting Georgia in the College Football Playoffs Top 4. People said that Auburn would be the one to put a bitter end to Kirby Smart’s hopes this season. When everyone doubts the Dawgs and their backs are against the wall, it seems to strengthen their resolve. The University of Georgia seems to rise up to the expectations and they play their best football. It was a game that was dominated by the defense as both teams host two of the best defenses in the SEC. The game would come down to who had the better quarterback. Just like expected Jake Fromm rises above the level of competition and throws three touchdowns to help the Dawgs offense put up 21 points on this talented Auburn defense. Fromm had a great game as he was able to dish out three touchdowns, two coming from just the first half. A 51-yard touchdown strike to freshman Dominick Blaylock would set the tone early on for Georgia offensively. Fromm played his game and did a great job of overcoming the Auburn front seven and a very talented secondary that gave Georgia trouble on third down. D’Andre Swift continues to prove why he is the best running back in College Football as he rushed for an unlikely 106 yards against a big Auburn defense that was committed to stopping the run. Swift and Fromm have a lot to be thankful for, upfront this Thanksgiving. As the offensive line deserves a lot of credit for the way they handled two stars on Auburn's defensive line. Although they let up a sack it was just the sixth given up all season, which is the second-fewest in the nation. Dominick Blaylock is one of my contenders for Top Dawg of the Week as he was valuable for Georgia very early on. It was a 51-yard touchdown catch that would provide Georgia with an explosive play very early on. Brian Herrien picked up his first receiving touchdown on the season with on an 8-yard grab right before halftime to boost Georgia to a 14-0 lead. Eli Wolf was the other Dawg to bring in a touchdown grab. We all knew that this would be a defensive game by all means. We all knew that Auburn would have to earn every point they would put up on the scoreboard. A lot of credit has to be given to the Georgia defense, who after this performance deserves to be called the best defense in College Football. The defense for Georgia has been the story all season long as they didn’t let up a single rushing touchdown until Bo Nix ran one in for Auburn to end the streak. The defense was the reason why Georgia won this game as they came up with big stops and forced a fumble off of a Bo Nix fumble. They also prevented multiple fourth-down attempts by the Auburn offense. Defensive Coordinator Dan Lanning has done a tremendous job with keeping his guys prepared for every opponent they face and it was evident today that Georgia was prepared for some of the crazy play calls that were provided by Gus Malzahn. Georgia held Auburn scoreless for the first half but couldn’t keep that shutout as they let up two fourth-quarter scores. But Georgia still prevailed! With this win, Georgia clinched their ticket to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game for the third year in a row. It is an impressive feature for Kirby Smart and his staff as he is likely to face a high powered LSU offense in Atlanta. A matchup with LSU would be another very interesting matchup, as the Dawgs defense would face one of the best offenses in College Football. It would also be a potential redemption game for Georgia after LSU’s win over Georgia last season in Baton Rouge. Georgia will move on to Texas A&M this Saturday in Athens, inside of Sanford Stadium on Dooley Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30. Go Dawgs! The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry Holds the Key to the SEC East! Georgia vs Auburn Pre-Game Prediction11/15/2019 “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” is set to kick off Saturday at 3:30 PM EDT inside of Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Dawgs come into the game ranked number 4 in the College Football Playoffs Top 25 ranking.
This is the second-highest-ranking that Georgia will be taking into Jordan-Hare Stadium during the College Football Playoff era. Georgia has a lot to prove in this game as their playoff chances are on the line. Not only that but the Dawgs can win the SEC East with a win against Auburn. But this game will not be easy for Georgia as they are heading into Auburn with a sour taste in their mouth. Back in 2017, Georgia took an undefeated record and the number 1 ranking in the nation into Jordan-Hare Stadium. It was a game that many expected Georgia to win by a few touchdowns, but exactly the opposite happened. Auburn upset Georgia with a 40-17 final score that would become Georgia’s only loss on their regular-season record that year. Georgia will be heading into this game with redemption on its mind. Under Coach Kirby Smart Georgia is 0-3 against SEC West opponents when playing them on the road. The Georgia offense is the biggest question heading into the game as they have shown to lack consistency from week-to-week. Georgia has struggled with executing a gameplan to counter the stacking of the box that many defenses have thrown at them to stop the run game of Georgia. Jake Fromm has been working with a very young and inexperienced wide receiving core that has struggled with creating separation from their man. This could be a big problem for Georgia if they can’t even beat simple man coverage. Although there has been a saving grace for the Dawgs this season offensively and has single handly been Georgia’s game-breaker. Lawrence Cager, the grad transfer from Miami has come in and made a connection with Jake Fromm. Cager has been the most reliable target for Fromm on the field and has been the go-to guy on third downs. Cager’s health will be in question this week as he has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has been bothering him for most of this season. His height, speed, and hands have made him a very dangerous weapon for Georgia. If he remains healthy they will have every chance to win this game. Georgia will need to pass the ball to win this game. The front seven of Auburn is big and can stop an effective run game. Derrick Brown is the man that will be leading that front as he is a big defensive tackle that has caused many offenses trouble. The offensive line will be one of the keys if Georgia advances with a win. The Georgia defensive unit is one of the best in the nation and has proved that week in and week out. The defense has not lost Georgia a game this year, and they’ve shown why. Georgia will have to deal with a freshman quarterback that has shown the potential to be dangerous and lead an offense. Bo Nix is the guy to watch out for Auburn as he will be holding the keys for their offense. If Nix plays well then they will be hard to beat but if the Georgia defense can shut him down and take away his weapons then he will be ineffective. We’ve seen the LSU and Florida defenses dismantle Bo Nix and this Auburn offense. The key will be pressuring Nix back in the pocket. Although Nix does have the ability to be mobile in the pocket if needed, his pocket awareness has lacked at times. If Georgia can bring a steady pass rush then he will be ineffective and Georgia will win this game. I predict that Georgia will win this game 24-10 in a strong defensive performance that sees Georgia create three turnovers on defense and gifts the Georgia offense some points. The College Football Playoff Committee has spoken as the University of Georgia has overcome the South Carolina nightmare that took place earlier in the season inside of Sanford Stadium.
After adding a win against Florida, which was a top ten team in the country at the time things were looking up for the Dawgs as they are pushing to make the playoffs for the second time in program history. The Tigers of LSU opened up the window of opportunity for Georgia to make it into the Top 4 this early after the Tigers domination of Alabama. LSU saw that big win on the road push them to the top of the rankings. It also saw the fall of Alabama as they fell two spots down to fifth. Things are not set in stone for Georgia as they still have their biggest hurdles in front of them as the Dawgs will have to travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on Auburn. Then they would have to win the SEC Championship if they want a chance of making the playoffs. The last time the Dawgs went to Jordan-Hare Stadium with the College Football Playoffs looming, the Dawgs lost in a terrible game that saw Auburn beat Georgia 40-17. Georgia can not overlook a single opponent for the rest of the season as we've seen what can happen on any given Saturday in College Football. If Georgia can win out the rest of the regular season, then win the SEC Championship they will be no way to keep the Dawgs out of the College Football Playoffs. Georgia put on a defensive show in Athens on Saturday as they held Missouri to a shutout. It was the third shutout of the season for the Dawgs, which is the most in one season for Georgia since 1981. And Georgia is just two wins away from punching their ticket to Atlanta. But at what cost?
Georgia lost three impactful players to injury in the game against Missouri. All three players were on the offensive side of the ball and their potential absence could be a game-changer this coming Saturday against Auburn. Star wide receiver, Lawrence Cager went down with what looks like another shoulder injury. It seems like it is the same shoulder that he has been dealing with all season. The good news is that Coach Smart let it be known in his post-game press conference that Cager could've returned if they needed him too. Georgia lost it's starting center Trey Hill and then lost it's most versatile linemen and the man who came in to replace Hill, Cade Mays also went down with an injury. Hill went out with an ankle injury and is likely to return and the same thing can be said for Cade Mays. Jake Fromm has put the outlier performance against South Carolina in the rearview mirror as he had another great performance against Missouri. Fromm threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 13/29 passing. Missouri threw a lot of different looks at Fromm with a lot of pressure and they still couldn't get Fromm off his game as he was able to overcome those looks and help Georgia move onto victory. D'Andre Swift had yet another impressive performance as he ran for 83 yards on 12 carries as he averaged 6.9 yards per carry. He continues to make do with what he is being given upfront. Swift broke a 47 yard run against the Tigers defense that made it seem like it going to be another great day for Swift but he ended up with only 12 carries. Lawrence Cager who went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter ended his day with 93 yards on 6 receptions. Cager was on pace for another impressive performance before a shoulder injury ended his day. Dawg fans are hoping that Cager will be able to play at Auburn this coming weekend as he has been the star out wide for Georgia. Freshman George Pickens stepped up big time for the Dawgs as he brought in 2 touchdowns and 67 yards on 5 receptions. He could of had three touchdowns but it was taken away after a penalty was called on Georgia. Many are hoping that this performance is one that will spark a one-two punch out wide for Georgia. It was a game that the defense is making the headlines. As they held through with their third shutout of the season which is the most since 1981. This defense is arguably the best in the nation and at worst a top-two defense in the country. They've continued their streak of brilliance with a big goal-line stop near the end of the game where they kept Missouri out of the endzone. This is significant because Georgia hasn't given up a rushing touchdown to this point in the season. The Missouri offense was without their starting quarterback, Kelly Bryant and Georgia capitalized on the situation as Richard LeCounte brought in an interception that he returned for 71 yards. The biggest question going into the Auburn game is which offense will be able to put up the most points and be efficient? Both teams boast great defenses but the offenses have been on and off this season for both sides. Which begs the question can Georgia work out the kinks in its offense and overcome an Auburn defense with a dangerous front seven? Georgia is the slight favorite in this affair that will see the Dawgs travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium which saw the Tigers strike down an undefeated Georgia team back in 2017. Georgia has no room for mistakes as one loss will knock them out of the Playoff race. |
