Jake Fromm settles some demons that were remaining from his previous experience on the road inside of Jordan-Hare Stadium. With his little brother on the opposing sideline as a player who wasn’t dressed out, Jake Fromm was able to lead Georgia to a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The media said it all week in the buildup to the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” as they talked about how the committee made a mistake putting Georgia in the College Football Playoffs Top 4. People said that Auburn would be the one to put a bitter end to Kirby Smart’s hopes this season. When everyone doubts the Dawgs and their backs are against the wall, it seems to strengthen their resolve. The University of Georgia seems to rise up to the expectations and they play their best football. It was a game that was dominated by the defense as both teams host two of the best defenses in the SEC. The game would come down to who had the better quarterback. Just like expected Jake Fromm rises above the level of competition and throws three touchdowns to help the Dawgs offense put up 21 points on this talented Auburn defense. Fromm had a great game as he was able to dish out three touchdowns, two coming from just the first half. A 51-yard touchdown strike to freshman Dominick Blaylock would set the tone early on for Georgia offensively. Fromm played his game and did a great job of overcoming the Auburn front seven and a very talented secondary that gave Georgia trouble on third down. D’Andre Swift continues to prove why he is the best running back in College Football as he rushed for an unlikely 106 yards against a big Auburn defense that was committed to stopping the run. Swift and Fromm have a lot to be thankful for, upfront this Thanksgiving. As the offensive line deserves a lot of credit for the way they handled two stars on Auburn's defensive line. Although they let up a sack it was just the sixth given up all season, which is the second-fewest in the nation. Dominick Blaylock is one of my contenders for Top Dawg of the Week as he was valuable for Georgia very early on. It was a 51-yard touchdown catch that would provide Georgia with an explosive play very early on. Brian Herrien picked up his first receiving touchdown on the season with on an 8-yard grab right before halftime to boost Georgia to a 14-0 lead. Eli Wolf was the other Dawg to bring in a touchdown grab. We all knew that this would be a defensive game by all means. We all knew that Auburn would have to earn every point they would put up on the scoreboard. A lot of credit has to be given to the Georgia defense, who after this performance deserves to be called the best defense in College Football. The defense for Georgia has been the story all season long as they didn’t let up a single rushing touchdown until Bo Nix ran one in for Auburn to end the streak. The defense was the reason why Georgia won this game as they came up with big stops and forced a fumble off of a Bo Nix fumble. They also prevented multiple fourth-down attempts by the Auburn offense. Defensive Coordinator Dan Lanning has done a tremendous job with keeping his guys prepared for every opponent they face and it was evident today that Georgia was prepared for some of the crazy play calls that were provided by Gus Malzahn. Georgia held Auburn scoreless for the first half but couldn’t keep that shutout as they let up two fourth-quarter scores. But Georgia still prevailed! With this win, Georgia clinched their ticket to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game for the third year in a row. It is an impressive feature for Kirby Smart and his staff as he is likely to face a high powered LSU offense in Atlanta. A matchup with LSU would be another very interesting matchup, as the Dawgs defense would face one of the best offenses in College Football. It would also be a potential redemption game for Georgia after LSU’s win over Georgia last season in Baton Rouge. Georgia will move on to Texas A&M this Saturday in Athens, inside of Sanford Stadium on Dooley Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30. Go Dawgs!
