Top Dawg Preview: Georgia vs Baylor Sugar Bowl 2020! A Shot at Redemption! The Dawn of a New Decade!12/31/2019 A shot at redemption! Georgia has a chance to reset the clocks and go back to the Sugar Bowl and win it. This time they will be facing a talented Baylor team that only lost to Oklahoma all season long.
A roller-coaster season for the Georgia Bulldogs comes to an end Wednesday when the Dawgs face off with the Bears. The Sugar Bowl part two for Georgia as they played in the very same bowl game against Texas last season. While many are hoping for a different result, as the Bulldogs didn’t impress in New Orleans last season against the Texas Longhorns. The Sugar Bowl is a must-win for Georgia this time around. While many fans were upset at not being in the playoffs last season, everyone is focusing on winning the Sugar Bowl and using it as a springboard into next season. The loss to South Carolina that Georgia suffered early in the season was a sign that this Georgia team wasn’t going to be the one to win it all. They still have a chance of winning something, though. A win in the Sugar Bowl is a win in a New Year’s Six Bowl, which is considered the second most prestigious set of bowl games a program can be apart of. One of the biggest letdowns this season for Georgia has been the offense. We have gone over so many times and how it is so disappointing. It is clear what Georgia has to do to become Sugar Bowl champions. Georgia needs to focus on outscoring their opponent, which Baylor, who possesses a very fast-paced offense that likes to put points on the board — opposed to Georgia’s pro-style offense, which goes at a slower pace and tries to control the clock and ultimately the game. Georgia needs to be able to move the ball against a Baylor defense that ranks top 10 in sacks this season. An impressive feature for a team that plays a very innovative style of defense. Baylor has committed to the 3-3-5 defensive formation, which is something new and different then many defenses that Georgia has faced this season. Many would think it would be hard to generate a pass rush with just three people upfront. But Baylor has shown that there can be a success in that type of defense. Baylor likes to send a fourth guy when they are playing can usually be hard to identify where that extra person is coming from. With three starting offensive lineman out for the upcoming Sugar Bowl, it will be a tough task to face a Baylor front that specializes in rushing the passer. While left tackle Cade Mays and right tackle Jamaree Salyer have gained a lot of extra snaps this season, they haven’t played the snaps and gained the knowledge like Andrew Thomas, and Isaiah Wilson gained. Georgia will not be able just to double team the Baylor front as there is usually a delayed linebacker blitz coming from either side. So Georgia will have to rely on freshman Warren Ericson who is likely to start at the right guard. The passing game has been a weakness for Georgia this season as Jake Fromm hasn’t always been on the same page as the receivers this season. They will have to trust each other now as if they don’t this will be an ugly game for the Bulldogs once again. The status of D’Andre Swift is a game-time decision and is likely the key to winning this game. If Swift is healthy and can go 100%, then look for Georgia to go to the ground early and often. Georgia likes to play bully ball with their opponents. Which is what I consider Georgia’s ground and pound running style that they’ve used this season. Tyler Simmons and George Pickens will be the two guys to watch at the receiver as they are both two of Fromm’s most reliable targets on the field for Georgia this game. The Georgia defense will be playing with a chip on their shoulder after the LSU loss in the SEC Championship Game, where the Tigers put up 37 points on the Georgia defense. The Baylor offense has some very dangerous weapons, and if taken lightly, they will make you pay. Quarterback Charlie Brewer is a talented quarterback who is a true dual-threat as he is a threat on the ground and especially through the air. Look for the RPO to be a big part of the Baylor game plan as they will try to open up the Georgia defense. The Georgia secondary will have its hands full as they will be dealing with NFL prospect Denzel Mims who is one of the best receivers that Georgia will face all season. Mims has the speed to run right by you and even run away from you. While he also has the height and athleticism to go up and bring down the 50/50 ball that QB Charlie Brewer likes to look for. Baylor has a very explosive offense that can beat you in one play just LSU could. The Bears run a spread offense that likes to move the ball quickly and take your breath away. A stark contrast to the one Georgia runs. The Dawgs have to get it done in New Orleans! If not, there are going to a lot of questions. Go Dawgs!

The Sugar Bowl kicks off January 1st at 8:45 PM EDT in New Orleans as the Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Baylor Bears.
It will be a great matchup of the two highest-ranked non-playoff teams. Georgia is coming off the blowout loss to LSU in the SEC Championship while Baylor is coming off the thrilling overtime loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. A lot of questions surround the Georgia team just like last season. This time people aren’t questioning if the team wants to play, rather who will play? Georgia will be without 20 scholarship players for the game in New Orleans. It is a far contrast from the one player that was supposed to holdout in hopes of securing his NFL future. This year Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson will both holdout for preparation for the upcoming NFL Draft. There is a long list of players that either didn’t make the trip to New Orleans or won’t play in the game for Georgia for many different reasons. These significant absences have provided more questions for Georgia to go out and answer on New Years Day. One of the biggest and long-lasting questions about this Georgia team is, how will the offense produce? Georgia has struggled offensively this year as they have been too one dimensional and predictable on offense. It has been a war of attrition out wide at receiver and in the trenches among the offensive line for Georgia. The Georgia passing game has regressed at an alarming rate this season and has many questioning the ability of Jake Fromm and the Georgia coaching staff. Young, inexperienced receivers haven’t helped Georgia’s cause on offense. Georgia has had to rely on the running game and an active offensive line. But it hasn’t always been fruitful for the Dawgs as they have faced steeper competition this season. With Lawrence Cager and Dominick Blaylock now both out for the upcoming Sugar Bowl, Georgia will have an even more difficult task getting the passing game going. It will be up to James Coley to draw up plays that give Jake Fromm a chance to get the ball to his playmakers. Georgia will have a less than 100 percent D’Andre Swift at running back who is available to take snaps for the Dawgs as he is still dealing with a bruised shoulder. Many aren’t expecting to see much from him in New Orleans as it is the staff will look to James Cook and Zamir White to take some of the load off, Swift. Georgia will still have Tyler Simmons, Demetrius Robertson, and George Pickens at the receiver position. Those three have the talent and potential to win games for Georgia, but it will come down to execution. Georgia offense has suffered from a lot of dropped passes and miscommunication between the receivers and Jake Fromm. The dropped passes and miscommunications killed Georgia’s first offensive drive against LSU in the SECCG. Fromm is known to play well on the big stage, but he has struggled at times this season when it has mattered most. Georgia will be playing indoors, which will be a big help to the Georgia offense as they don’t have to deal with any inclement weather. If Fromm can get in sync with his guys early and develop a rhythm right after the opening kick, then the Georgia offense could overcome the missing players and the three missing starters along the offensive line. Fromm and the offense will have three new starters along the offensive line for the Sugar Bowl. Both tackles have declared for the NFL Draft, and right guard Ben Cleveland is out due to academic ineligibility. Cade Mays is most likely replacing Thomas at left tackle as he has played that position before. Jamaree Salyer could play at guard or tackle if they need him too. If Salyer goes to guard, then it is likely we’ll see true freshman Xavier Truss start at right tackle. Georgia needs to master the short to medium yardage passing game. Teams like Auburn and LSU have created explosive plays through plays like slants and other shorter yardage routes. Georgia hasn’t used those short to medium yardage routes. The offense hasn’t always been on the same page, which has prevented the Georgia offense from coming together. There is no need to go out on the first drive and throw deep bombs praying that they come down with a catch. When you give Fromm a few completions with his receivers before going for the big play, that big play turns into a significant gain for the Dawgs. Nothing is wrong with making a profit. That is a motto that this UGA offense needs to adapt for not only the Sugar Bowl but next season as well. Using the short-yardage passing game to set up the deep game could spark the Georgia offense to go out and win the Sugar Bowl.
The countdown to kickoff in New Orleans can’t get here fast enough for Georgia fans. As more and more players are pulling themselves out of the upcoming bowl game for the Dawgs.
This time it is a big surprise to many fans as it isn’t a healthy scratch, but because of injury senior safety and captain, JR Reed announced that he would not be playing in the Sugar Bowl. Reed did initially plan to play for Georgia one last time but was unable too due to a foot injury that he suffered during practice. The Dawgs will now be without five players because of holdout and three because of injury. While the Baylor Bears will be full strength as they are preparing for their “Super Bowl” like many have been saying this game is for them. With a Baylor win, it will be the first time in program history that they won 12 games. While Georgia is trying to preserve it’s standing among the elite in college football. It is becoming a trend that has taken over College Football over the past decade. One that is going to ruin College Football for the foreseeable future.
Players sitting out of bowl games have become a regular for college football fans over the past decade. As the best of the best, make the decision that they want to secure their NFL future rather than playing in a meaningless bowl game that is the equivalent to an NFL Preseason game. The total number of players Georgia will be without for the upcoming Sugar Bowl is now up to five. Georgia just arrived in New Orleans this afternoon, where they were greeted by the Sugar Bowl festivities immediately after they exited the plane. Coach Kirby Smart attended his pregame press conference and was a host of questions for the upcoming bowl game. The usual questions asked of him about who made the trip and who didn’t make the trip. Coach Smart has made it known since the end of the LSU game that he was only bringing the players that wanted to play. He wanted players that are focusing on the task at hand, which is playing Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. When Smart was the question about the availability of two Georgia players, Smart gave the same answer, which has become a recurring theme over the past few weeks. Smart said, “We’re going to focus on the players playing in the game.” He gave that response after questions about senior tailback Brian Herrien and senior defensive tackle Tyler Clark. Both are significant contributors to Georgia on their respective sides of the ball, and it will be a substantial loss for Georgia. If this response from Smart is saying that both Herrien and Clark have not made the trip to New Orleans, then that would mean Georgia will be without five players. Starting tackles Andrew Thomas, and Isaiah Wilson have declared for the draft recently. While starting right guard, Ben Cleveland has been ruled academically ineligible for the Sugar Bowl. While the addition of Herrien and Clark to this list hurts, Georgia did get a boost with the news that James Cook would be able to play following his arrest. Just days after the departure of former offensive line coach and associate head coach Sam Pittman, as he left Athens for the head coaching job at Arkansas. Coach Kirby Smart has moved fast to replace the elite offensive line coach at Georgia.
Sunday night things were not looking good in Athens just a day after the loss in the SEC Championship game, then the news of Sam Pittman leaving Georgia had many fans freaking out and worrying about the future in Athens. Then a report came out that former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke was one of the early suitors for the job. It looked like it was a strong possibility that Matt Luke would be making his way to Athens to replace Pittman. Today we got the long-awaited news that Matt Luke is officially the new offensive line coach and associate head coach. Not long after being hired, he has immediately hit the recruiting trail for the Bulldogs as he tries to keep the Georgia recruiting class intact. Coach Luke spent three seasons at Ole Miss where he compiled a 15-21 record in his short time there. Before becoming the head coach he served as the offensive line coach under Hugh Freeze. Luke landed top recruits in Laremy Tunsil and Greg Little in his time there as an offensive line coach. He is known for being a good coach and a good recruiter which is exactly what Georgia needed after losing the coach and recruiter of the caliber of Sam Pittman. Players love playing under him and it is very well known after the report about several Ole Miss players were unhappy with his firing and considered transferring. Not something you want to hear if you are an Ole Miss fan, but it means for Georgia that his players like him and respects him. Coach Luke is currently on the trail as he tries to keep the five offensive line commits that Sam Pittman worked for in his time here. With the early signing period next week, Georgia would love to get all those guys to sign early and secure their spot among the 2020 recruiting class. A lot has happened in the past twenty-four hours after Georgia left Atlanta with a sour taste in their mouth, which was served to them by LSU.
The Tigers of LSU handed Georgia its second loss of the season, in which Georgia was dominated in every facet of the game. A very powerful LSU offense led by the soon to be Heisman winner Joe Burrow, made it very hard on Georgia to keep up. It was a classic matchup of great offense versus great defense, and the great offense prevailed. College Football is a land of great offenses, all the national championship-caliber teams have an elite offense that carries the team. Georgia is missing that elite caliber offense, the offense isn’t even considered average by most. Georgia has been to one dimensional on offense, as they look to dominate teams with a power run game. Which many people think is an outdated way of playing as more and more teams are switching to the modern style spread and air raid offenses. Georgia has struggled in the passing game as many things have transpired in just a year’s time. Georgia lost it’s top four receivers from the 2018 team, who are now on an NFL roster playing at the next level. Many expected that Georgia would struggle early on in the season but that they would eventually overcome it and get in sync. But it has been the opposite for Georgia this season, as Georgia struggled even more. Young and inexperienced receivers have had trouble connecting with quarterback Jake Fromm on a regular basis. They have struggled with route running and creating separation from their defender so that Fromm has somewhere to put the ball. We’ve seen potential with freshmen like George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock come into the program this fall and have made plays at times for Georgia. But they haven’t been getting the ball on a consistent basis to be recognized as the great players they are. Graduate transfer Lawrence Cager came into the program in the fall from Miami and worked hard each day. That hard work ended up paying off as he built a connection with Jake Fromm. Cager would become the go-to guy in key situations for Georgia. Georgia relied way too much on Cager to make the plays for Georgia that it has stunted the growth of the younger players. Now, this isn’t on Cager or Fromm, as a quarterback will throw the ball to the receiver he trusts most in big moments. It is on Kirby Smart and the offensive staff for not preparing for situations where Cager wasn’t available. Jake Fromm looked like the Jake Fromm we knew and loved when he had Cager on the field, but without him, he didn’t look anything like the one we’ve seen in the past two seasons. Coach Smart and others may be ignorant and point to the fact that losing four top receivers to the NFL is a big deal and hard to come back from in the span of a year. But Georgia doesn’t have a talent deficit at the receiver position. Georgia has former four and five-star receivers that came out high school highly touted. They may lack experience but that is up to the coaching staff to work with those guys and coach them up so they can be ready when they get on the field. Many fans are already calling for a change in the offensive philosophy at Georgia especially after seeing how this season went. Those voices got a lot louder after seeing an LSU offense that just a year ago was running a similar offense to what Georgia currently runs, decimate a great Georgia defense with 37 points. Sunday afternoon it was being reported that Georgia associate head coach and offensive line coach Sam Pittman was the “top candidate” for the head coaching job at Arkansas. A few hours later, it was announced by Arkansas Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek on his official Twitter account that Sam Pittman was the new Hogs head coach. Pittman was in a video with Yurachek to announce the news, and after saying “Go Hogs!” He used the signature phrase that he used whenever Georgia would gain a commitment from a recruit, “YESSIR!!!!” Pittman has been vital in Georgia’s success under Coach Smart. Pittman inherited an average offensive line that struggled for the last few seasons under Mark Richt. In just Pittman’s second season as offensive line coach at Georgia, he turned it into one of the best offensive lines in the country. Pittman is an elite recruiter who knows how to sell a school to a recruit. When those guys get to Pittman, he knows how to get the best out of them. Pittman is a great motivator who loves his players and his players love him back. With Pittman leaving Georgia it is vital that Kirby Smart finds a suitable replacement that can come in and continue where Pittman left off. Georgia’s impressive recruiting class for 2020 is stacked with talent at the offensive line position. Now it is in danger of losing those players as they built a strong relationship with Coach Pittman. Not only does Coach Smart need a new offensive line coach, but he needs to do some soul searching and analyze everything that went wrong this season. It is no secret that the offensive line struggled with pass protection at times this season. Statistically, they did great, but when you put them to the eye test there are some concerns. That is now up to whoever the next coach to fix. Georgia can’t just go out and hire whoever they want at as the offensive line coach. One of the most vital relationships on a staff is the one between the offensive coordinator and the offensive line coach. Jim Cheney and Sam Pittman were a package deal for Georgia and it paid off in the three years that they were together. We saw the offensive line and the offense as a whole make progress each year. No matter what you think of either man, you can admit that they were a vital cog in the 2017 National Championship run for Georgia. No one really knows the relationship between Coley and Pittman, but since this was their first time on staff together. It can make it hard for things to jell offensively. While the criteria are clear for what Georgia wants in an offensive line coach which is, a good recruiter, and a good coach, who knows how to rally players behind him. That person must have a connection with James Coley if he is going to stay as Georgia’s offensive coordinator. But this a perfect time for Coach Smart to twerk his offensive philosophy in a way that will improve the team. I am not asking for change from pro-style to a spread or air raid. But I am asking for some changes in the concepts that they use. Georgia needs to integrate more spread and air raid concepts into their offense if they want to win a National Championship. Alabama did it years ago and it has helped put a few more trophies in their case. It is time that Kirby Smart does it as well and get rid of the ignorance that could destroy everything that he has been building. Go Dawgs! There has been a lot going on inside the Georgia Football Program within the past few hours. There has been the news about what bowl game Georgia will be playing in next month, along with some coaching staff changes incoming.
Sugar Bowl Part Two It has been announced by both the Sugar Bowl and the University of Georgia, that the Georgia Bulldogs will be heading to New Orleans for the second year in a row. Just a year ago around this time, it was announced that Georgia was going to play Texas. And we all know how that one ended. This time around Georgia will be playing Baylor. Who has been a bit of surprise this season for many in College Football. Baylor finished the season with an 11-2 record with their only losses coming to Oklahoma. Baylor ranks seventh in the nation currently after losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship just this weekend. The Bears only have one win over a current top 25 team, which came against Oklahoma State where they beat the Cowboys 45-27. Baylor will be a challenge for Georgia as they possess an explosive offense that has surprised a lot of people this season. They will be looking to spoil the New Year for Georgia just like their counterpart Texas did a year ago. Sam Pittman to Arkansas? Reports are now coming out that the University of Arkansas is eyeing current Georgia offensive line coach and top recruiter, Sam Pittman as the “top candidate” for their head coaching vacancy. This wouldn’t be Pittman’s first stop at Arkansas as he served there once before in 2013-2015 as the offensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator. In his time there he produced several NFL lineman. Pittman has been receiving support from former Arkansas players that played under Pittman. Losing Pittman would be a major blow for Georgia, as he is one of the most irreplaceable coaches on the staff. Pittman is one of the best offensive line coaches and recruiters in the nation. He is well-liked by his current and former players and has a scouts eye on the recruiting trail. Pittman could be the first domino to fall on the Georgia coaching staff which if it does it could spark some more changes among the staff. Dan Lanning to Memphis? Not only is Pittman in the running for a head coaching job after his impressive stint so far with Georgia. But first-year defensive coordinator and Broyles award finalist Dan Lanning is in the running for a head coaching job as well. Lanning received the stint as defensive coordinator last season after the departure of Mel Tucker, who landed a job at Colorado as the head coach. Lanning has done an impressive job as a defensive coordinator, which has seen the resurgence of a dominant defense that is considered top two in the nation. Lanning is about to finish his second season with the Bulldogs after coming over from Memphis at the end of the 2017 season. Lanning coached the outside linebackers for Georgia in the 2018 season, then got promoted to the defensive coordinator at the end of last season. Which made him one of the youngest coordinators in the country. After the departure of head coach Mike Norvell from Memphis, it has been rumored that Lanning will be taking an interview for the job. Many have considered Lanning to be an outsider for getting the job as he is just 31 years young. Now we have seen some crazy things in football, and when it comes to a good head coach, colleges won’t care about your age as long as they trust you to run the program. If Lanning leaves Georgia, Coach Smart will not be left with nothing as inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann was announced as the co-defensive coordinator to help Lanning run the defense. Other SEC News It has been reported that former Georgia quarterback and former Georgia offensive coordinator under Mark Richt, Mike Bobo has agreed to become the next offensive coordinator at the University of South Carolina. Bobo is just a week removed from stepping down as head coach at Colorado State where he struggled in his last two seasons. Bobo finished the season at Colorado State with a 4-8 record which wasn’t much of an upgrade from the 3-9 season that they suffered the year before. Georgia fans have clamoring for the addition of Bobo at Georgia as they haven’t been satisfied with the offensive product on the field. James Coley, the current offensive coordinator has come under some scrutiny from fans and the media in recent weeks. The addition of Bobo is a big one for Will Muschamp as he is battling for his job next season as people are getting impatient with the product that is South Carolina Football. They have struggled with consistency on offense and have been hoping for a good coordinator for years. In a worst-case scenario for Georgia, yesterday in the SEC Championship was realized when freshman wide receiver Dominick Blaylock left the game with what looked like a serious injury.
Blaylock went up to make a catch and it was a big play for the Dawgs, but it turned into a nightmare when he came back down to the ground. Blaylock’s leg came down in a bad position as it looked locked up. All the prayers are being lifted for Blaylock who has shown the amount of talent he possesses. Blaylock’s freshman season has come to an end this morning after an MRI revealed that he suffered a torn ACL. Which will effectively sideline him for the rest of the season. It is being said that he could be recovered by the start of fall practice in July. His health could be a big factor next season in the effectiveness of the Georgia offense next season. Blaylock was behind Pickens and Cager in receiving yards this season. Blaylock provided Georgia with another option for Jake Fromm to throw too. Blaylock is a deadly weapon in the slot with his speed and great hands. His first touchdown came against Murray State where he recorded a 62-yard touchdown reception. Which is his career longest reception so far. We all hope and pray for a fast and full recovery for Dominick Blaylock. Go Dawgs! ‘Stuff happens in football,’ is what Jake Fromm said when asked about the dropped passes that Georgia suffered on Saturday. Missed opportunities have been a quick summary of the season for Georgia, just like they missed opportunities on both sides of the ball Saturday against LSU.
A 37-10 loss to LSU has ended the hopes of a College Football Playoff appearance for Georgia. The loss sees Georgia slip to 11-2 on the season, which will shine a lot of light on the South Carolina loss that Georgia suffered early on in the season. It was a loss that Georgia shouldn’t have on their record. But enough is enough, that early-season loss isn’t anything new for Georgia fans. As it has been a common occurrence from past Georgia teams that many feel without that one regular-season loss would’ve won a National Championship. Georgia’s motto for this season was “Do More.” Coach Smart said that he wanted to see his team “Do More” whether it’s on the practice field, game field, or in the film room. It has become apparent that motto is just a motto at the end of the day. That motto still applies for the next month as this season is not over for Georgia. Georgia still has a bowl game ahead of them after finishing with 11 wins on the season for the second year in a row. It is likely that Georgia will face the highest-ranked team from the Big 12 which is expected to be Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl will host the highest-ranked remaining SEC team along with the highest-ranked BIG 12 team remaining. It would be an interesting matchup for Georgia as they will be heading back to New Orleans after just a year ago, they played Texas in the Sugar Bowl and we all know how that went. Georgia also has a chance at playing in the Orange Bowl if they aren’t the highest-ranked SEC team. Which is totally up to the College Football Playoff committee, who will have to rank the Dawgs after a blowout loss to what should be the number one team in the country LSU. Georgia could have a lot of holdouts this year in whatever bowl game they play as there is a lot of NFL talent on the roster for Georgia this season. Running back D’Andre Swift and left tackle Andrew Thomas are both projected first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. In fact, Andrew Thomas will most likely be a top 10 pick this year. Not only those two are considering their future in between the hedges, as junior guard Solomon Kindley, redshirt sophomore right tackle Isaiah Wilson are also considering their futures. While on defense junior safety Richard LeCounte will also have a decision to make as he has some NFL potential. The decisions of these players will be key to Georgia’s gameplan to whatever bowl game they play in as they can all be difference makers if they play for Georgia. If I had to predict which players are most likely to come back, LeCounte, Kindley, and Wilson will be the most likely to come back for the bowl game. Which they could use to boost their stock for the up coming draft if they wish to forgo the rest of their eligibility. While the player movement is expected in the coming days, there is the talk of potential coaching movement. While the coaching carousel is actively heating up in College Football, questions are being asked about members of Georgia’s staff. Many upset Georgia fans are asking for changes at the offensive coordinator position as they are not satisfied with the performance of the offense this season. After just one season under James Coley, we have seen a big regression not only in the offense as a whole but Jake Fromm’s stats have regressed. While Kirby Smart has chosen to point the finger at the loss of four NFL players leaving Georgia last season. That hasn’t cut it with fans and media members who are saying you should have been better prepared for that. This whole debate over who should go and who should stay on the staff. Is heating up as the availability of former Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is currently looking for a job after his tenure as Colorado State head coach ended just a week ago. Any changes that will be made will be announced very soon as the coaches will be heading on the recruiting trail for a few weeks in the lead up to national signing day. Recruits will want to know about any changes that are coming to the coaching staff at Georgia. We are also expected to find out which players will be playing in the upcoming bowl in the coming week, as Georgia will be holding a team meeting Sunday where those things will be discussed. A great summary of the way the Georgia season has gone in 2019. It has been a roller coaster ride for Georgia fans as they saw a red hot start that saw the Dawgs get off to a 5-0 start that included a 23-17 win over Notre Dame. Fans were hopeful that the dreamed undefeated season would come to fruition after 39 years of waiting.
Then when we all least expected it the South Carolina Gamecocks would come to town and upset Georgia in overtime to beat the Dawgs. That loss magnified the concerns that were being raised about the Georgia offense. That struggling offense couldn’t get anything going today against a beatable LSU defense that has struggled. Georgia failed to keep up with the high vaulted LSU offense that has made putting up 30 points look easy. The Georgia defense kept the Dawgs in the game for 3 and a ¾ quarters then after the offense continued to struggle it was time to move on for Georgia and all of the Dawg fans. After scoring a touchdown in what many would call garbage time, Georgia put up just 10 points on the day. LSU will go onto become the 2019 SEC champions and will complete the perfect season as they are 13-0. With the College Football Playoffs out of sight for Georgia, it looks like they will have a chance at playing in the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl. With Baylor losing to Oklahoma, it is expected that Baylor would meet the Dawgs in New Orleans for that matchup. While Georgia could also face Virginia in the Orange Bowl. A tough way to end conference play for Georgia, but now they will have a few weeks off for a break then they will begin bowl preparation for whichever bowl Georgia is picked to go to. |
